Food for the Flock: Fourth Sunday in Lent

Announcements

LENT HUNGER APPEAL

Our recent Lent tradition for giving at All Shepherds has been a call to help those in need through donations to the ELCA Hunger Appeal. In Matthew 6:1-21, Jesus calls his disciples to the traditional practices of "alms-giving, prayer, and fasting." Each of these, in its own way, points to following Jesus through a life of compassion. If you would like to contribute to this important ministry of our church, use the Lenten coin folders you will be receiving in the mail, the Lenten Hunger Envelopes at church or by indicating the amount you wish to give in your weekly offering. However you decide to act, you can be sure hungry people in the USA and beyond our shores will be grateful for your generous help.

CASTING CALL FOR ALL SHEPHERDS MEMBERS

We are putting together a short welcome video for the All Shepherds website, and we need your help. If you are willing and able to record yourself and/or your family sharing a welcoming message to website visitors, we’d love to include you.
Here are some guidelines:

  1. Use your smartphone to record, being sure to hold it sideways to capture a wide shot.

  2. Try to record in natural light, outside or near a window.

  3. Record yourself saying the following:

    • “Welcome to All Shepherds. We can’t wait to meet you.”

    • "We are all shepherds going, loving, encouraging, nurturing, serving All people in Christ’s name."

    • Then, record a sentence or two about something you love about the church.

  4. SMILE!

When you’re finished, send the recording to communication@allshepherds.org. Don’t worry about making it perfect. We’ll take care of the editing! Wed like to have all submissions by Friday, March 19. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below or send us an email. We can’t wait to see what you submit!

SUMMER CAMP AT LMC & CAMP LUTHER

LEARNING:

LEARNING STRATEGIC TEAM: DREAM TO VISION PART 2

All Shepherds had a dream…..A reflection from Anne Kuney on the beginning of Sunday School and Christian Ed for All Shepherds in the late 1990s and early 2000's:

Our family joined All Shepherds in 1996 when Church was being held at Wyandot Run Elementary. One summer day Ben (who was 5) and I were driving down Liberty Road and he said, “Mom we need to start going to Church!” He said this as we were driving by Wyandot Run and saw a sign All Shepherd’s had by the road. I grew up as a Lutheran and wanted my children to be raised in the Lutheran faith. They had been baptized at the Lutheran Church I grew up in. We went that Sunday and have been here ever since!

Our family found a faith community that provided learning opportunities for our 3 and 5 year old and these learning experiences continued until they graduated from high school. We worshiped at Wyandot Run for one year.

In 1997 we moved from Wyandot Run Elementary and we started worshipping in a small church on the corner of Orange Road and Route 23. This space allowed for us to have our own place and not have to set up and take things down each week. It was a small church and we only had a few rooms for Sunday School but we made it work by combining grade levels for ages Preschool-Middle School. We also had Confirmation classes, youth activities and LOMO (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries) for VBS.

In 2001 All Shepherds was able to build our own church. Everyone was thrilled to have our own Church where we had room to spread out and improve current learning programs and create new ones. The education team was happy to finally have more rooms for Sunday School classes (Preschool-Adult), Confirmation, VBS and youth group. Preschool-High School Sunday school classes, taught by Church volunteers, were well attended by many children. First Communion classes and acolyte training occurred, Confirmation on Saturday mornings and a youth group was added. VBS went from a program run by LOMO to one organized and run by Church volunteers.

In 2006 we were able to add onto our church which added even more rooms and space for educational programs. Our Learning ministry was thriving!

Look for the next installment of how the dream became a vision next week!

SERVING

LENT COMMUNITY SERVANT SHEPHERD PROJECT

Please remember all finished cards and snacks need to be at Church no later than March 24. We will then assemble these care boxes to be delivered the following week. Thank you so much for your service to show our appreciation to those who care for others in our community.

SERVICE NEED: Cleaning Cabins at LMC in March

Lutheran Memorial Camp in Fulton (about a 45 minute drive from us) reached out and asked if we would have any families willing to come to camp in March (they are very flexible on timing) to help clean cabins. The cabins have not been used since last year at this time. Each family would be assigned a cabin to clean on their own so social distancing could be observed and followed. Timing is flexible. Please let Pastor Wendy know if you and your family would like to help!

GIVING

Your financial support is vital to strengthen and expand our congregation's ministries, you can mail offering checks to All Shepherds Lutheran Church, 6580 Columbus Pike, Lewis Center, Ohio 43035. You can also give electronically. To donate using a smartphone, search the Google Play Store of the Apple App Store for “ELCA Giving” and download the Tithe.ly app. To make a Tithe.ly contribution from our website, visit www.allshepherds.org/electronic-giving. You can designate the amount, select a specific operating fund and even set up a recurring donation so you don’t have to repeat it each week.

Thanks again for your courageous giving because of your courage and faithfulness our mission is being strengthened now!

ELECTRONIC GIVING

In 2020, All Shepherds received more than $81,000 in contributions using Tithe.ly. That is more than 20% of all 2020 contributions. Tithe.ly started as an alternative approach to giving, but during the pandemic, our members found it to be a very convenient and reliable method to financially support All Shepherds. We now receive more than twice the monthly contributions via Tithe.ly than before the pandemic. Thanks to all members of the congregation for your continued financial support of the All Shepherds ministries during 2020. For additional information on Tithe.ly please contact Becky Lickfelt.

GIVING QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“Beware! Don’t be greedy for what you don’t have. Real life is not measured by how much we own.”
Luke 12:15
